Jalandhar: A couple of days after the core committee of the Shiromani Akali Dal announced to put “principles above politics”, radical Sikh group Dal Khalsa has asked SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal to explain who was responsible for degradation in Sikh politics. “The panth has lost its trust in the present day leadership of the Akali Dal. It is the Akali Dal under the Badals that always gave preference to power and privileges above principles,” Dal Khalsa working president Paramjit Singh Mand said in a statement on Sunday.“It is not difficult to understand this sudden shift in the Akali Dal attitude as elections are around and chances for a re-alliance with the BJP look dim. For all these years, senior Badal did his politics by taking credit for his alliance with the BJP, which in the eyes of panth was an unholy and unprincipled tie-up. Like the Congress, the BJP too is anti-Sikh and anti-Punjab,” he said. “Ever since the demise of Akali stalwart Gurcharan Singh Tohra, your family has taken control of the SAD and made the SGPC subservient to it,” Mand asked Sukhbir.
