NEET: Karnataka may seek recognition for state quota too
Karnataka‘s ruling Congress is planning to move a resolution in the ongoing legislature session to urge the Centre to allow a state quota in medical admissions based on common entrance test (CET) score for the state’s students. The government would not oppose NEET as it has been upheld by the Supreme Court. Instead, it would also seek accommodation for the state’s students based on their CET (medical) score. This would ensure justice to Karnataka students as the NEET, in its present style, was helping students mostly from high income groups trained in coaching centres, an official source said.

The resolution draft was awaiting clearance from chief minister Siddaramaiah and if approved, would be placed before the Legislature for passing, he added.

Karnataka would not follow in the footsteps of Tamil Nadu, which has sought scrapping of NEET, he added.
