Geeta<\/a>, who gained national attention when she returned to India from Pakistan in 2015, has cleared her Class 8 exams with good marks and is now aiming for a government job<\/a>. The 33-year-old woman, who has speech and hearing disabilities, achieved a score of 411 out of 600 in the exams conducted by the Madhya Pradesh State Open School Education Board<\/a>. She excelled particularly in social science and Sanskrit.Geeta’s Class 8 results are a significant milestone in her journey towards mainstream society. She has demonstrated commendable academic performance despite her disabilities. “Geeta is very excited about her exam result and is looking forward to her future with hope,” said Gyanendra Purohit, secretary of the Anand Service Society, an NGO<\/a> based in Indore.<\/p>\n

Future Aspirations<\/h2>\n

According to Purohit, Geeta expressed through sign language her desire to continue her education while pursuing a government job. “The minimum educational qualification for recruitment of Class IV employees of the central and state governments is 8th pass. Geeta is now eligible to apply for government jobs in this category,” Purohit explained.<\/p>\n

Background and Personal Life<\/h2>\n

Geeta, whose birth name is Radha, currently resides in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district of Maharashtra<\/a> with her mother, Meena Pandhare. Her family is financially struggling, and Geeta hopes to secure employment to achieve financial independence. Purohit noted that Geeta has no plans to marry at the moment.<\/p>\n

Geeta’s journey began nearly 23 years ago when she accidentally boarded a train to Pakistan as a child. She was discovered alone on the Samjhauta Express at Lahore railway station by the Pakistan Rangers. Bilquis Edhi of the Edhi Foundation adopted Geeta and raised her in Karachi.<\/p>\n

It was through the efforts of the late External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj<\/a> that Geeta returned to India on October 26, 2015. She was placed in an NGO’s residential complex in Indore and has been living in Maharashtra since reuniting with her family in 2021.
