Residents of Peeragarhi<\/a> village in Outer Delhi have been reportedly grappling with a troubling water issue for nearly two weeks. As per an Indian Express report, residents are getting blue water<\/a> with foams from their taps. Local residents attribute the contamination to chemical and denim factories near the village. They claim these factories are improperly disposing of industrial waste, which is tainting the drinking and bathing water provided by the Delhi Jal Board (DJB). \u201cFactories and dyeing units in the area are disposing of their toxic waste carelessly. The area\u2019s water supply is generally not good; over the last four months, we faced issues of irregular and dirty supply. In the last two weeks, however, the water flowing from our taps is visibly polluted, it is blue\u2026 the administration concerned has been informed, but it has been quiet when it comes to taking action,\u201d village head Vinod Shaukeen told Indian Express.<\/p>\n

The blue water has not only affected household taps but has also spilled into the streets. Some residents say that several people have fallen sick due to contaminated water. “The water is so blue that it has stained our washroom tiles,\u201d a local resident Manish Kumar told IE.<\/p>\n

DJB\u2019s Response

Delhi Jal Board has acknowledged the widespread issue. \u201cThere are many areas in Delhi where the water is polluted. We keep getting complaints in this regard for which we have a helpline number; from there, the issue gets transferred to a junior engineer who then works on resolving the issue. The amount of time taken depends on the complexity of the issue\u2026 we will take this issue into notice and solve it at the earliest,\u201d an official said.
