Pic: Reuters<br \/>\n        <\/span><br \/>\n      <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Making the Seine swimmable<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At a cost of 1.4bn euros (\u00a31.18bn), organisers have built a giant basin to capture excess rainwater and keep wastewater from flowing into the river, renovated sewer infrastructure and upgraded wastewater treatment plants.<\/p>\n<p>Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo very publicly <a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/paris-mayor-swims-in-river-seine-to-prove-cleanliness-ahead-of-olympics-13179304\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>took a dip in the water<\/strong><\/a> two weeks ago, as well as Paris 2024 chief Tony Estanguet, and the top government official for the Paris region, Marc Guillaume, along with swimmers from local swimming clubs.<\/p>\n<p>     <a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/download-app\" target=\"blank\" data-tracking-label=\"ui-app-promo-download-link\" class=\"ui-app-promo sdc-article-widget\" data-type=\"\" data-component-name=\"ui-app-promo\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/p>\n<p>    <\/a><\/p>\n<p>Data released last week showed that E. coli levels at the Bras Marie on the Seine were at 985 units per 100ml that day, slightly above the established threshold.<\/p>\n<p>Other swimming events planned in the Seine are the triathlon mixed relay on 5 August and the women&#8217;s and men&#8217;s marathon swimming events on 8 and 9 August.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/paris-olympics-mens-triathlon-postponed-after-heavy-rain-makes-seine-too-polluted-to-swim-in-13187275\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Olympics organisers have postponed the men&#8217;s triathlon because of concerns over water quality in the River Seine, where the swimming discipline of the event was due to take place.
