Chelsea are said to have closed their internal investigation into Enzo Fernandez after the 23-year-old apologised to his Chelsea teammates over a racially offensive chant.<\/p>\n

Fernandez was seen in an Instagram Live video chanting a derogatory song about the French team with his Argentina teammates after winning the Copa America earlier this month.<\/p>\n

In response, Chelsea said they had begun a “disciplinary procedure”<\/strong><\/a> while the French Football Federation filed a complaint to FIFA over the video.<\/p>\n

Wesley Fofana, who plays for France and Chelsea<\/strong><\/a>, also reposted the video on social media with the caption “Football in 2024: uninhibited racism”.<\/p>\n

The midfielder is now understood to have apologised to several of his French<\/strong><\/a> teammates after landing in Atlanta for Chelsea’s international friendlies in the US.<\/p>\n

Teammates, including Fofana, are said to have accepted the apology from Fernandez, who is also understood to have volunteered to make a contribution to an anti-discrimination charity.<\/p>\n

The charity in question remains unknown, but the donation will be made via the Chelsea Foundation and the club have said they will match his contribution.<\/p>\n

Sources told the PA news agency that the club – having been impressed with his maturity – have concluded their internal disciplinary process and consider the matter resolved.<\/p>\n
