US vice president Kamala Harris is now the only candidate seeking the presidential nomination, after a deadline passed with no one else qualifying.<\/p>\n

Some 99% of delegates signed Ms Harris’s<\/strong><\/a> nominating petition, according to the Democratic National Committee.<\/p>\n

It cements her position as the Democratic frontrunner for the 5 November election after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race.<\/p>\n

“Our party has met this unprecedented moment with a transparent, democratic, and orderly process to unite behind a nominee with a proven record who will lead us in the fight ahead,” DNC chair Jaime Harrison said in a statement.<\/p>\n

It comes as her campaign announced Ms Harris will hold her first rally with her new vice presidential nominee on Tuesday 6 August in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n

She will embark on a four-day battleground tour including Michigan and Arizona.<\/p>\n

The location of the first rally suggests Pennsylvania’s governor, Josh Shapiro, may be at the top of her list of running mates.<\/p>\n

Other candidates include Kentucky’s governor Andy Beshear, US Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona, Kentucky’s Governor Tim Walz and the secretary of transportation Pete Buttigieg.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday Ms Harris said she had not yet made a decision on who she will run with against Donald Trump<\/strong><\/a> and his running mate JD Vance.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
