Kamala Harris has officially been declared the Democratic candidate for the 2024 US election.<\/p>\n

No challengers presented themselves ahead of the 27 July deadline, eliminating the possibility of an open Democratic Party convention in Chicago in August.<\/p>\n

Ms Harris appeared to get the final seal of approval when the Obamas offered her their endorsement<\/strong><\/a> last month.<\/p>\n

In a phone call recorded for social media, President Barack Obama told her: “We called to say, Michelle and I couldn’t be prouder to endorse you and do everything we can to get you through this election and into the Oval Office.”<\/p>\n

Former president Barack Obama endorses Kamala Harris<\/span>
\n <\/figcaption><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

The former president joined the Clintons, former House speaker Nancy Pelosi, actor George Clooney, and singers Cardi B, Ariana Grande, and Charli XCX in supporting Ms Harris to run against Donald Trump<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Donations to the Democrats have also soared since President Joe Biden said he would not seek re-election.<\/p>\n

Almost immediately $50m (\u00a338.7m) of support poured in, with labour unions and advocacy groups also getting behind Ms Harris.<\/p>\n
