Assam<\/a> chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma<\/a> expressed concern over Bangladesh situation and said that instability in Bangladesh might turn it into a base for Northeast India<\/a> based insurgent outfits.<\/p>\n

The chief minister told media persons in Dergaon, \u201cThe event in Bangladesh is worrisome for us from two angles. If unrest persists in Bangladesh people will attempt to come to India, we must secure the border. During the tenure of Sheikh Hasina, the insurgents<\/a> from Northeast India were flushed out of Bangladesh.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cFor us it will be a matter of concern if again in Bangladesh Northeastern insurgents set up bases. I believe that the new government of Bangladesh will talk to the Government of India and will address the concern of Northeast India. We have trust in Prime minister Narendra Modi\u2019s leadership, and we are confident the Prime minister will talk to the new dispensation in Bangladesh and ensure that Bangladesh does not become a safe haven for Northeastern militants.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said that he is worried about what will be the shape of Assam in 2041. \u201cWill such scenes be repeated in Assam in 2041 or 2045. Will West Bengal also witness similar things? Will Jharkhand see similar scenes? We are really worried about that and in the last three to four days thinking about that only. What happened in Bangladesh used to take place in Dhubri, Goalpara and Barpeta district of Assam every day earlier. It is worrisome for Bangladesh and India especially for Eastern India. Everyday our demography is changing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIn these uncertain times, when we are watching our borders with Bangladesh , my mind often travels to the future of Assam. I pray for strength and endurance to go through the present with courage. Hoping that our efforts today will be the cornerstone of a brighter tomorrow. We will have the courage to protect our religion and culture,\u201d Sarma wrote on X.
