There were <!-- --><a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cm23y7l01v8o\" class=\"sc-c9299ecf-0 bZUiKB\" rel=\"noopener\">21 convictions on Thursday alone.<!-- --><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">So far, 149 charges have been brought with police expecting the number to &#8220;rise significantly&#8221; as suspects are fast-tracked to appear in court.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">More than 500 people have been arrested, and more than a quarter of those who have been charged are under the age of 21, the latest statistics show.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">The mother of a <!-- --><a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cy0nlnr731xo\" class=\"sc-c9299ecf-0 bZUiKB\" rel=\"noopener\">teenager who faces charges for rioting<!-- --><\/a> told the BBC her son was caught up in the crowd and should not be &#8220;made an example of&#8221;.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Among those sentenced so far, include:<!-- --><\/p>\n<ul class=\"sc-5c9c90b0-0 cnfHHs\">\n<li class=\"sc-8d73edac-0 ezcCTE\">Former postmaster and school governor <!-- --><a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cy0rl7zqr80o\" class=\"sc-c9299ecf-0 kNHAVz\" rel=\"noopener\">Steven Mailen, 54, and partner Ryan Sheers, 29, who were each handed a prison sentence<!-- --><\/a> of two years and two months <!-- --><\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-8d73edac-0 ezcCTE\">Kieron Gatenby, 19, was sentenced to 16 months&#8217; in a young offender institution after being part of a group throwing missiles at police and smashing windows while chanting racial slurs<!-- --><\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-8d73edac-0 ezcCTE\">Pensioner <!-- --><a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cwywvzp9g12o\" class=\"sc-c9299ecf-0 kNHAVz\" rel=\"noopener\">William Nelson Morgan, who is 69, was jailed<!-- --><\/a> for his part in unrest in which police were attacked and a library was set on fire in Liverpool<!-- --><\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-8d73edac-0 ezcCTE\">Two brothers, Adam Wharton, 28, and Ellis Wharton, 22, who looted the library community hub set ablaze by rioters were also jailed<!-- --><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Thousands of anti-racism protesters have also rallied in cities and towns across England &#8211; in some cases clashing with groups of the far-right.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">In Walthamstow, video emerged online appearing to show a now-suspended Labour councillor telling a crowd that far-right demonstrators needed to have their throats cut.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">On Thursday <!-- --><a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cz074vyvjzvo\" class=\"sc-c9299ecf-0 bZUiKB\" rel=\"noopener\">Ricky Jones was arrested<!-- --><\/a> on suspicion of encouraging murder.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">The spate of violence is the worst the UK has experienced since 2011, when riots between 6 and 11 August across England saw looting and arson, as well as mass deployment of police and the deaths of five people.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">On 29 July, a children&#8217;s Taylor Swift-themed holiday club was the target of a knife attack. Three young girls Bebe King, Elsie Dot Stancombe and Alice da Silva Aguiar, nine, were killed.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">The seven days that followed, <!-- --><a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/c5y38gjp4ygo#:~:text=They're%20all%20linked%20to,UK%20by%20boat%20last%20year.\" class=\"sc-c9299ecf-0 bZUiKB\" rel=\"noopener\">fuelled by misinformation online,<!-- --><\/a> the far-right and anti-immigration sentiment, were filled with violent unrest.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Riots broke out across England, from Plymouth on the south coast to Sunderland in the North East.
