Chandigarh: Observing that a vibrant democracy is a result of its meritorious, honest and skilled human resources, and the absence of corruption<\/a>, fanaticism, mediocrity and sycophancy, the Punjab<\/a> and Haryana high court has held that \u201cit is better if the employees who have no control over their desires, stay away from government jobs\u201d.
\u201cTemptation or unquenched thirst for more money, more power is a devil in disguise.Once a person chooses to take the path of corruption, be it only once, they end up setting their own selves under a trap. What was once a choice later becomes a compulsion as no amount of running in this vicious hamster wheel would allow one to get out of their cage,\u201d the Punjab and Haryana high court has held.
The Punjab and Haryana high court was also of the view that one only enters a pathway to destruction by choice. Justice Anoop Chitkara passed these orders while dismissing an anticipatory bail plea filed by Gurwinder Singh, a patwari serving in Punjab government.
He was booked for corruption by the state vigilance bureau Punjab on November 24, 2023, at Ludhiana.
As per the allegations, he had agreed to enter a mutation based on forged documents by accepting an offer of a bribe of Rs 27,50,000, out of which the complainant had allegedly paid a sum of more than Rs 5.4 lakh, but the petitioner did not do the needful, which led to registration of FIR against him.
In his plea for interim bail, the petitioner had contended that the FIR was a counterblast because the petitioner refused to succumb to pressure exerted by the complainant, and he also wrote in his official reports about the threats.
Opposing the plea, the state police submitted that they had a video recording of the petitioner admitting to taking bribe and that is why his custodial interrogation is required not only to recover the money, but also to know the modus operandi of other persons who indulged in similar activities. After hearing all parties, the high court held that the petitioner\u2019s vulnerabilities are his own failing and an analysis of allegations and evidence collected does not warrant the grant of bail to him. <\/p>\n
