Andhra Pradesh<\/a>: A troubling incident unfolded at Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences<\/a> (SVIMS<\/a>) in Tirupati<\/a>, where an outstation patient suffering from conversion disorder<\/a> attacked a female intern doctor on duty. The incident, which occurred on Saturday afternoon, led to an immediate protest by the hospital’s medicos, according to a report by TOI.<\/p>\n

The patient, identified as Bangarraju from Bobbili in Vizianagaram district, suddenly became aggressive during treatment. As per the report, he grabbed the hair of the female intern doctor and pushed her, causing her a minor injury. Fortunately, other doctors and security staff intervened in time, preventing further harm to the intern.<\/p>\n

Bangarraju, who suffers from epilepsy, had initially been admitted to TTD\u2019s Aswini hospital in Tirumala<\/a> before being transferred to SVIMS on Saturday afternoon. <\/p>\n

SVIMS Director and Vice-Chancellor Dr. R.V. Kumar explained that the patient was diagnosed with conversion disorder. “He was unconscious upon arrival at the hospital but briefly regained consciousness during treatment, only to assault the doctor before collapsing again,” Dr. Kumar said. He further added that Bangarraju is currently on a ventilator and cardiac support, with his condition described as critical.<\/p>\n

The resident doctors at SVIMS, who briefly called off their protests against the heinous rape and murder of a female resident doctor at Kolkata following the Supreme court order, resumed their demonstrations. The medicos are now demanding the implementation of the code grey protocol and enhanced security measures at the hospital to ensure the safety of medical staff.<\/p>\n

In response to the incident, the top management of TTD has assured the doctors that their concerns will be addressed positively.
