We are at the cliff edge,&#8221; he warned.<!-- --><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\">\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">A \u00a35.3m social care overspend was one factor behind the council expecting to face a budget gap of \u00a341m by the 2026\/27 financial year. <!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">However, faced with increasing costs and overspends, the LDRS understands the authority is now working on finding \u00a350m in savings over the next few years.<!-- --><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\">\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">The council is the latest in Greater Manchester\u00a0to confirm it is facing rising costs, which is putting pressure on its budget.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Oldham Council recently announced it was projected to overspend by \u00a325m this year, on top of an existing \u00a311m black hole from last year, prompting the launch of a voluntary redundancy scheme.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Meanwhile, Salford is facing a \u00a36.8m overspend, and Tameside\u2019s figure is \u00a3680,000, mainly due to increased pressures in adults and children\u2019s social care, as well as homelessness.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">A full update outlining the size of Manchester&#8217;s overspend is due to be released in early September.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">A report into the council\u2019s finances in June said: \u201cRobust monitoring processes are in place and future reports will be brought to the executive on the position throughout the year.\u201d<!-- --><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/ckgw9g70g1no\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Manchester City Council is facing a \u00a350m funding shortfall over the next few years, with the authority&#8217;s finance chief warning they are &#8220;at a cliff edge&#8221;.
