Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma<\/a> who is BJP’s in charge election for Jharkhand said that on two occasions when former chief minister Champai Soren<\/a> visited New Delhi he was being snooped by Jharkhand police<\/a>. Soren will join BJP<\/a> on August 30. Champai has been under surveillance for the last five months.<\/p>\n

Sarma told media persons on Wednesday in Guwahati that snooping<\/a> was going on for the last 10 days while he twice visited New Delhi. \u201cSoren is still a minister in Jharkhand state. You will be surprised to hear that the people of JMM-Cong talk about saving the Constitution but also hatch a big conspiracy to snoop on a senior tribal leader like Champai ji. Some top officials of Jharkhand Police have been arrested.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said that Delhi Police had registered an FIR. \u201cSome associates of Soren caught two people who were taking photos at the hotel where Soren was staying. The snooping was done by the Special Branch of Jharkhand police. Two were sub-inspectors in Jharkhand Police\u2019s Special Branch and, when confronted, had initially claimed they were journalists.\u201d

\u201cBoth times, they stayed in the Taj Hotel, and both times they were followed. On Tuesday, two persons were caught by Champai\u2019s aide taking pictures and when confronted they initially said they were journalists, but later they admitted that they were Jharkhand Police\u2019s sub inspectors posted in Special Branch,\u201d Sarma alleged.<\/p>\n

The two were eventually handed over to the Delhi Police. \u201cThey both agreed that they have been tracking Champai for a very long time. They said that they were given the responsibility to track Champai,” he said. <\/p>\n

Sarma said, \u201cThere have rarely ever been such instances in Independent India when a Cabinet colleague has been followed by the police. This is a big issue where privacy has been trampled upon\u2026Suspicion is that the phone would have tapped too as the government funded the stay \u2013 of two police officers \u2013 in a five-star hotel. Is this way you Congress-JMM invade someone else’s privacy. Is Champai Soren a Naxal or extremist. Such espionage cannot exist in any civilised country. \u201cFormer Jharkhand chief minister Champai Soren on Wednesday asserted that his decision to join the Bharatiya Janata Party was taken in the interest of Jharkhand.
