One person received bullet injuries in North 24 Parganas’ Bhatpara on Wednesday morning during the BJP’s 12-hour Bengal bandh<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The bandh, called by the BJP to protest<\/a> the “police atrocities<\/a>” against student agitators, evoked mixed response<\/a> today with train services getting affected at various sections of Sealdah and Howrah while Trinamool, police and BJP workers clashed at various places of the state.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, main organiser Sayan Lahiri of ‘Paschimbanga Chhatra Samaj’ claimed to represent the student community and called the Nabanna Abhijaan<\/a> (Nabanna March<\/a>) was arrested last night.<\/p>\n

Kolkata Police said that altogether 76 persons have been arrested.<\/p>\n

“Six rounds of firing and bombing took place. BJP leader Priyanku Pande was coming to my residence for the 12-hour bandh. He was injured along with his driver after receiving a bullet. Trinamool leader Somnath Shyam is behind the trouble,” former BJP MP Arjun Singh told media persons. He claimed that several rounds were fired at their vehicle.<\/p>\n

Pande added, “Three bullets were fired at my vehicle. My driver was injured.” However, Pande escaped without any injury.Violence<\/a> was also reported in West Midnapore’s Narayangarh where the BJP party office was vandalised and workers allegedly beaten up.Two BJP legislators – Malati Rava Roy from Tufanganj and Nikhil Ranjan Dey from Cooch Behar (South) – were detained by police. In Alipurduar, MP Manoj Tigga was detained by police during a protest. In Deganga, a scuffle took place between the BJP workers and police during the bandh. In Mankundu, a mob also tried to block railway tracks. Trouble also erupted in Birbhum’s Rampurhat.<\/p>\n

Clashes also broke out between BJP and Trinamool Congress supporters at some spots, including Hooghly district’s Konangar and Asansol in West Burdwan district. “Altogether 210 have been detained. Many senior leaders were also dragged during the attack,” said Sukanta Majumdar.<\/p>\n

Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari took out a procession in his constituency Nandigram. Adhikari said, “A triple march (Abhiajan) will be undertaken by the BJP in Nabanna, Kalighat and Lalbazar. Be prepared for it.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
