According to Gadkari, India accounts for 5 lakh accidents and 1.5 lakh deaths annually, while 3 lakh people are injured. &#8220;This caused a 3% loss to the country&#8217;s GDP,&#8221; he said. <\/p>\n<p>The minister emphasised on the need to conduct safety audits of all highways and noted that all drivers need to follow <a data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/lane-discipline\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lane discipline<\/a> to reduce the number of accidents.
