The Uttar Pradesh government had sent at least 25 reminders to the <!-- -->Punjab government<!-- --> for Ansari\u2019s custody. <br \/>Finally, after the Uttar Pradesh government approached the Supreme Court alleging that the Punjab government was protecting Ansari due to his links with Congress leaders, the apex court had directed the Punjab government on March 26, 2021 to hand over Ansari&#8217;s custody to the Uttar Pradesh government within two weeks.<br \/>After the Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) government came to power, chief minister Bhagwant Mann had on July 2, 2023, announced that the state government is not going to pay Rs 55 lakh spent as litigation fee to be paid to the supreme court\u2019s senior advocate Dushyant Dave for \u2018cozy stay\u2019 of Ansari in Punjab jails during the previous <!-- -->Congress regime<!-- --> and it is going to recover the entire money from former chief minister Capt <!-- -->Amarinder Singh<!-- --> and former deputy chief minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa. Both Capt Amarinder and Randhawa were also issued notices by the government.<br \/>As the AAP government had ordered an inquiry into this case, then ADGP RN Dhoke\u2019s report last year had mentioned that Ansari had received special facilities during his over two years&#8217; stay in Ropar jail during the Congress regime. The ADGP had also recommended proceedings under the Prevention of Corruption Act against jail officials for allegedly facilitating Ansari in jail in lieu of bribes but the report did not recommend any action against any politician.
