Anubhav Sinha is enjoying the success of his OTT debut project\u00a0IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack<\/a><\/em>. This Netflix project features a star-studded cast, including\u00a0Vijay Varma<\/a>, Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapur, Dia Mirza, Arvind Swamy, Manoj Pahwa, Kumud Mishra, Aditya Srivastava, Patralekhaa and others. In an exclusive chat with NDTV’s Abira Dhar, the director\u00a0was asked\u00a0how he managed to bring all these actors together for the project.\u00a0To this,\u00a0Anubhav replied, \u201cActually\u00a0if you ask me,\u00a0dobara mai karna chahun to mai kar paunga?\u00a0<\/em>[Will I be able to do it again if I want to?] I will not be certain. Sometimes\u00a0some\u00a0things happen serendipitously. I wanted them. I went to them. They were very kind to participate\u00a0and\u00a0baaki\u00a0logistics bhi, vo sab bhi workout ho\u00a0gya.\u00a0<\/em>[Everything\u00a0else, including the logistics, also worked out.]\u201d<\/p>\n

The director also shared how\u00a0it was surreal to see\u00a0all the actors working together.\u00a0Anubhav Sinha<\/a>\u00a0said, \u201cJab<\/em>\u00a0most\u00a0specifically in that location where they all were together.\u00a0Jab maine in sob ko saath me dekha to aisa yakeen nahi aa raha tha ki yeh ho raha hai aur saat din ki shooting thi us set pe. Aur log na sirf shooting dekhne aate the bade-bade actors, directors aur cameramen, ki chal kya raha hai yaha pe?\u00a0<\/em>[When I saw all of them together, it was hard to believe that this was\u00a0actually\u00a0happening. The shooting on that set lasted for seven days. And people, not just big actors but also directors and cameramen, would come to see what was going on there.]\u201d<\/p>\n

The filmmaker also shared how Taapsee Pannu once visited the sets of\u00a0IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack\u00a0<\/em>. Anubhav Sinha said, \u201cEk din kone me Taapsee Pannu\u00a0baithi\u00a0hui thi. Chupke camera ke peeche baithi hui thi to maine kaha. \u2018Tu kya kar rahi hai?’. Boli ki, \u2018Mai dekhne aai hu.’\u00a0<\/em>[One day, Taapsee Pannu was sitting in a corner. She was quietly sitting behind the camera, so I asked her, ‘What are you doing?’ She replied, ‘I have come to watch.’]\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking about how filming\u00a0IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack\u00a0<\/em>was the best experience of his career, Anubhav Sinha expressed, \u201cThose seven days are the most blissful shooting days of my 30 years of directing.\u00a0When I look back, dude\u00a0you\u00a0have\u00a0got\u00a0Naseeruddin Shah and Pankaj Kapur standing there\u00a0and\u00a0you are directing them.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

The director also recalled\u00a0how he asked\u00a0actor Amit Sial for one more take for the first time in his career, which made him\u00a0extremely\u00a0hesitant.\u00a0He shared that he felt the same\u00a0way again when he requested\u00a0another take from Naseeruddin Shah.\u00a0\u201cI am so grateful to them all.\u00a0Each and every\u00a0actor of\u00a0IC 814<\/em>,\u201d Anubhav Sinha added.<\/p>\n

When asked\u00a0about\u00a0how shooting a web series differs from making a film, Anubhav Sinha explained, \u201cThe only difference is writing because then you know you have to let go of the audience after this\u00a0much\u00a0time\u00a0and\u00a0then you have to bring them back.\u00a0That is the only new game\u00a0that\u00a0you have to\u00a0play,\u00a0Otherwise\u00a0shooting\u00a0it, editing it\u00a0and\u00a0everything\u00a0else is the same\u00a0as\u00a0films.\u00a0And there is a different artform like in television is a different art form.\u201d The director elaborated that in films, the goal is to attract the audience to the theatres once. In contrast, web shows require maintaining engagement across every episode, which he described as a \u201cdangerous game.\u201d<\/p>\n

IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack\u00a0<\/em>was released\u00a0on Netflix on August 29. The show\u00a0is based\u00a0on the 1999 hijacking of an Indian aircraft by militants.\u00a0<\/p>\n
