Prime Minister Narendra Modi<\/a> on Wednesday kicked off his visit to Singapore<\/a> with a lively start, trying his hands on a dhol as members of the Indian diaspora greeted him with enthusiasm.
Adding a personal touch to the occasion, a woman from the community tied a rakhi on Modi’s wrist.
This marks Modi’s fifth official trip to Singapore, where he’s set to “deepen strategic partnerships” and connect with multiple generations of Singapore\u2019s leadership. His visit comes at a pivotal time, with both nations looking to strengthen collaborations in advanced manufacturing, digitalisation, and sustainable development.<\/p>\n

Accompanied by Minister of External Affairs S. Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, among other officials, Modi\u2019s visit will include key meetings with Singapore\u2019s top leaders, including President Tharman Shanmugaratnam<\/a>, Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong<\/a>, and Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong. The visit also aims to build synergies in the semiconductor sector, with both prime ministers scheduled to visit a semiconductor manufacturing facility. MoUs focused on manpower skilling in this critical area are expected to be signed, offering promising opportunities for India’s youth.<\/p>\n

Modi, who last visited Singapore in 2018, took to X ahead of his departure, expressing his anticipation for discussions that will strengthen the strategic partnership between the two nations, particularly in emerging sectors. “I look forward to my discussions to deepen our Strategic Partnership with Singapore, particularly in new and emerging areas of advanced manufacturing, digitalization, and sustainable development,” Modi<\/a> had posted on X.With a packed schedule and high hopes for the future, Modi\u2019s visit to Singapore is set to further solidify the growing bond between India and Singapore.
