Imphal: Giving solace and better life to Persons with Disabilities<\/a> (POW), including victims of the ongoing Manipur<\/a> strife, a team of Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti<\/a> (BMVSS<\/a>), an organization for the rehabilitation<\/a> of PWD<\/a>, is currently holding \u201cfitment camps\u201d for them in the state.<\/p>\n

Since its establishment in 1975, BMVSS, the maker of globally commended \u201cJaipur Foot\u201d has benefitted over two million people.<\/p>\n

Besides Manipur, the Samiti also held similar camps in Chhattisgarh<\/a>\u2019s disturbed areas of Dantewada and Sukma where a large number of people, who lost their limbs, were provided with artificial limbs<\/a> and other aids and appliances.<\/p>\n

The first camp in Manipur kicked off in Imphal a few days back, and two more camps will be held in Churachandpur district for two days from September 6 and another two days in Kangpokpi district from September 9, said a BMVSS statement issued today.<\/p>\n

During the camps, the differently abled persons will get artificial limbs and other aids and appliances free of cost, it added.<\/p>\n

The Imphal camp, held at Manipur State Sumang Leela Council Compound, was very successful with the disabled provided with the Jaipur Foot<\/a>, artificial hand, hearing aids, tricycles, wheelchairs, callipers and crutches.It added that these rehabilitation camps have been organized jointly by the office of Manipur Commissioner for PWD and several groups.Interfaith Forum and Disabled Development Association of Manipur (DDAM) with the active support of Manipur Sumang Leela Council, JCI Imphal ICONICS, Bramha Sabha, Shree Govindjee Temple and Rajarshi Bhagya Chandra Cultural Foundation, are the groups.<\/p>\n

Former advocate general of Rajasthan and the Samiti\u2019s executive member, Girdhari Singh Bapna is heading the camps in Manipur, and the team comprised highly skilled technicians having rich experience.<\/p>\n

BMVSS founder and chief patron, D R Mehta said they have taken the initiative to hold the camp in Manipur which saw turmoil in recent days and a number of people who became disabled needed rehabilitation.<\/p>\n

He thanked the state government and the organizations which helped in holding the camps, it said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
