Two college students in Bengaluru<\/a> experienced a harrowing ordeal on September 3 evening when an autorickshaw driver, angered by a canceled ride, verbally abused and slapped one of the students in public. The incident, which occurred on a busy road, has since gone viral, prompting widespread reactions on social media.<\/p>\n

The accused driver, identified as 46-year-old Muthuraj<\/a> from Chikkallasandra, was arrested by Magadi Road police following the altercation. <\/p>\n

A video capturing the confrontation has evoked strong responses from netizens, with even fellow autorickshaw drivers condemning Muthuraj for his abusive behavior toward the 23-year-old postgraduate student<\/a> from a private college.<\/p>\n

According to the victim, the incident unfolded around 4 p.m. on Tuesday when she and her friend were attempting to book an autorickshaw through a mobile app to visit her brother at Kudlu Gate. <\/p>\n

In light of Bengaluru\u2019s notorious traffic and the frequent difficulty of securing rides, both students opted to book Ola<\/a> autos on their respective phones.<\/p>\n

“Considering the city\u2019s traffic and past experience where auto drivers refuse to come, we thought of booking in our apps and boarding the vehicle whose driver responds first,” the student told The Times of India (TOI)<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The confusion began when one of the drivers, Muthuraj, arrived at the scene and noticed that his ride had been canceled in favor of another autorickshaw. Enraged, he confronted the students, hurling expletives in both Kannada and English. “I began recording him on my mobile phone, but before I could understand what was happening, he slapped me. I was completely shocked,” the student said, recounting the moment to TOI<\/em>. “I wanted to hit him back, but I was too scared. From his behavior and the way he was shouting, I was afraid he would retaliate if I did.”<\/p>\n

The autorickshaw driver, fuming in anger, asked the students, “Tera baap deta hai kya gas? <\/em>(Does your father give me gas),” and went on hurl abuses in Kannada.<\/p>\n

The driver of the autorickshaw the students had boarded did not intervene but instead attempted to calm Muthuraj down, urging him to let the matter go. <\/p>\n

In the aftermath, the student contacted Ola\u2019s customer service and sent an email to report the incident but received no response. “I\u2019m still at my brother\u2019s place because I am too scared to go to my house,” she shared with TOI<\/em>, expressing her ongoing distress.<\/p>\n

After the victim posted the video on X and sought support from the riding platform, Ola extended its support and called the incident ‘alarming’.<\/p>\n

“This sounds quite alarming. Don\u2019t worry, we are here to help you with this. Please provide us with the CRN and your registered email ID via DM so that we can investigate this further,” Ola Support said in a post on X. <\/p>\n
