The International Solar Festival<\/a> 2024 features a futuristic solar city in which the sun powers everything. It also has virtual-reality devices depicting solar parks and agriculture solar, and a solar smash game that gives visitors on an experiential journey of transition from fossil fuel-based power to clean and renewable solar energy<\/a>, reported TOI. <\/p>\n

The first edition of the two-day event is being hosted by New Delhi\u2019s Bharat Mandapam. The festival displays innovation in the solar sector that can drive a greener future. Among the displays is a virtual flipbook, which educates people about successful case studies from around the world. It also includes Modhera village, which is India’s first solar-powered village. Further, it depicts how solar water purifiers installed in water kiosks, hospitals, schools and residences enabled safe drinking water in Tanzania.<\/p>\n

Another key attraction is Solartron, an interface that shows how solar energy has been harnessed by India, USA, Germany, Japan and Australia. It shows that India’s solar power<\/a> capacity reached 85GW in the June 2024 quarter, a 32-fold rise in the last decade.<\/p>\n

A virtual reality<\/a> zone that explores how solar energy has been harnessed through the ages and advancements in solar power, has become popular among visitors. A 360-degree immersive zone, called Solaris, gives visitors a view of a clean metropolis and explains how solar technologies will reshape how we live and work. There is a tech game called Solar Smash that teaches people how to reduce electricity bills and power their homes sustainably.<\/p>\n

The event also exhibits a sundial, which is an ancient timekeeping device that uses the position of the sun to indicate the time. Another artefact made with eco-friendly materials captured the essence of solar energy.Apart from the engagement zone, the festival also displays products like solar pumps, perovskite solar cells, indoor solar cooking systems and battery-operated heating and cooling devices.Usman Ibrahim, a Nigerian student who is studying at a university in Noida, said he found the event interesting. “We explored different ideas through which we can enhance solar power,” Ibrahim said. Another student, Kajal Singh, said she found the event fun and educational. Muskan Sharma also said she was happy to have come to the festival. “It’s a good initiative,” she added.
