Ludhiana: Trying to rescue a neighbour being assaulted by his relatives did not end well for a 42-year-old man of Shimlapuri\u2019s Sooraj Nagar. The accused allegedly assaulted the man with a sharp-edged weapon in his neck, leading to his death on Thursday night.
Son of the deceased, Jasmeet Singh, said that his father Gurdeep Singh was at home with the family when he heard some noise from outside.\u201cWhen he went out to check, he saw that our neighbour, Amandeep Singh Deepu, was being attacked by a group of men. He rushed to save him when the assailants, who were armed with swords and other sharp-edged weapons, attacked my father,\u201d he said.
\u201cOn hearing my father\u2019s cries, we rushed out and saw him lying on the road in a pool of blood. We rushed him to civil hospital, where doctors declared him dead,\u201d the complainant said. Sub-inspector Gurmeet Singh said, \u201cAmandeep had a fight with his uncle at his house on Thursday night, following which his uncle\u2019s daughter Seema and son Kaka called their aides, including two Nihangs. On reaching the spot, all the accused attacked Amandeep, who rushed out of the house to save his life. On hearing Amandeep\u2019s screams, Gurdeep intervened to rescue him. But the assailants assaulted Gurdeep who died of a severe neck injury, while Amandeep sustained minor injuries.\u201d
The SI added that the police had registered a case against Seema, Kaka, a Nihang identified as Maan, and their three unidentified accomplices, under sections 302 (murder), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of the Indian Penal Code. The cops said raids were being conducted to nab the accused.<\/p>\n
