The government has no plans as of now to actively push for gas supplies via TAPI, a source said.<\/p>\n<p><a ref=\"dofollow\" data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/afghan-pm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Afghan PM<\/a> and former <a ref=\"dofollow\" data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/turkmen-president\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Turkmen president<\/a> launched works on <a ref=\"dofollow\" data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/tapi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TAPI<\/a> last week on the Afghan part of the project.<\/p>\n<p>At the border ceremony in Islim Cheshma in Turkmenistan, officials on both sides, including acting Afghan Prime Minister Hassan Akhund, hailed the project. &#8220;These initiatives would strengthen the bilateral relationship between Afghanistan and Turkmenistan, delivering substantial economic and social benefits to the populations of both countries,&#8221; Akhund said on the occasion.<\/p>\n<p>In a video that was broadcast live at the ceremony, Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedow said, &#8220;This project will benefit not only the economies of the countries participating but also the countries of the whole region\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><!--\/include_growfast.cms?pagename=article&skipcss=1potime:1--><br \/>However, experts who did not wish to be identified told ET that TAPI will only make economic sense if gas is being received in Pakistan and India given the market size of the two countries and India\u2019s purchasing power capacity. Besides, India now has easy access to <a ref=\"dofollow\" data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/lng-suppliers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LNG suppliers<\/a>.The pipeline that has been delayed for years will see around 33 billion cubic metres of <a data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/definition\/natural-gas\" rel=\"noopener\">natural gas<\/a> each year extracted from the <a ref=\"dofollow\" data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/galkynysh-gas-field\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Galkynysh gas field<\/a> in southeast Turkmenistan.
