High drama unfolded in Delhi on Sunday after the police received intelligence about a potential threat to stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui<\/a>. The incident took place at the IGI Indoor Stadium and The Suryaa<\/a> hotel in south Delhi, where Faruqui was staying. Following a coordinated operation, Faruqui left for Mumbai<\/a>, and an extensive investigation began.<\/p>\n

The police got a hint about the threat on Saturday night during the interrogation of suspects involved in a shooting incident in Greater Kailash-I<\/a> that resulted in the murder of businessman Nadir Shah<\/a>. The suspects revealed that they had been instructed to conduct reconnaissance of The Suryaa hotel for a targeted murder. They carried out the reconnaissance multiple times but were not informed about the target. Later, they received orders to kill Shah, which they executed on Thursday night. It is still unclear if Shah was the intended target at the hotel, with police investigating his connection to the venue.<\/p>\n

When police delved further into the suspects’ confession about the hotel surveillance, they discovered a plot targeting Faruqui, who was also staying at the hotel. Two police teams were formed \u2013 one team was sent to the hotel, while the other went to the IGI stadium<\/a>, where Faruqui was scheduled to compete in the Entertainers Cricket League<\/a> 2024 against YouTuber Elvish Yadav<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Chaos ensued as officers arrived at the stadium, evacuated it, and sealed entry gates to ensure security. Videos and footage of the match, showing officers evacuating the stadium, circulated on social media. Initially, the commotion appeared to be due to alleged threats against Yadav. \u201cWe were merely instructed to enhance security at the stadium where a match between two teams named Haryanvi Hunters and Mumbai Disruptors was scheduled to take place,” a police officer said.<\/p>\n

At the hotel, a team led by DCP Pratiksha Godara<\/a> inspected the premises, scrutinized entry and exit points, and verified guests’ identities. A hotel staffer confirmed that Faruqui was staying on the first floor, which was thoroughly checked by the police. Security at the hotel was heightened, with plain-clothes officers stationed throughout. DCP Godara persuaded Faruqui to take precautions, prompting him to leave for Mumbai. Faruqui later explained that he left as he had a flight to catch and declined to comment on the security issue, citing concerns.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
