Monga, once a banner maker, operated a sophisticated counterfeit visa factory from his home in Tilak Nagar, Delhi, deceiving hundreds of clients, a TOI report stated.

A Deceptive Journey

Monga’s journey from a banner maker to the head of a fake visa empire began with his humble start in Tilak Nagar. Behind the doors of his unassuming residence, a counterfeit operation was thriving. Equipped with software like Photoshop and Corel, Monga meticulously created and stored templates of visas for various countries. According to police, his skills were honed through a graphic design course that allowed him to produce high-precision fake visas.

Life Behind Closed Doors

Despite his criminal activities, Monga maintained a seemingly ordinary life. Sub-inspector Madan Lal, the investigating officer, noted that Monga lived with his teacher wife and two children—one studying in Delhi and the other in Germany, supported by a loan. His home, however, was a hub of illegal activity, filled with hundreds of stamps and organized paperwork necessary for his operation.

Modus Operandi

Monga produced 20-30 counterfeit visas per month, pricing each based on the client’s urgency and desperation. His criminal journey began when agents approached him during his banner-making days, enticing him with the prospect of earning Rs 1 lakh per visa compared to the Rs 5,000 he made per banner. This lure of quick money drew Monga deeper into the counterfeit visa trade.

Arrest and Investigation

Monga’s arrest came after a 15-day investigation. He used only one phone, turning it on briefly to connect with agents before immediately switching it off, making it difficult for police to trace his calls. His eventual downfall occurred when an associate, already in custody, lured him into a trap by requesting a fake visa. The arrest led to a raid on his residence, uncovering the operation’s full scale.

Police Crackdown on Fake Visa Networks

The police have intensified their crackdown on similar small-scale operations, with over 150 fraudulent visa agents arrested so far. DCP Usha Rangnani of IGI Airport emphasized the ongoing efforts to distinguish fake visas from genuine ones, highlighting common discrepancies such as spelling errors and variations in UV features. She noted that criminals are constantly enhancing their methods, making fake visas increasingly difficult to detect. The arrest of Monga marks a significant step in curbing the fake visa industry. As authorities continue their crackdown, the focus remains on dismantling these illicit operations and bringing those involved to justice.

Source link

The alleged mastermind behind a Rs 100-crore fake visa racket, Manoj Monga, has been arrested by airport police, ending a five-year cat-and-mouse game with law enforcement.
