A 26-year-old man, admitted to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital with Mpox<\/a> symptoms earlier this month, has successfully recovered and was discharged on Monday after 16 days of treatment, TOI reported. <\/p>\n

Dr. Suresh Kumar, the medical director of LNJP, confirmed the patient\u2019s recovery, stating that he is now virus-free.<\/p>\n

The patient, a businessman residing in South Delhi<\/a>, was admitted on September 6 after presenting symptoms of fever, body aches, and skin lesions. <\/p>\n

He tested positive for Mpox on September 8, Dr Kumar told TOI. His travel history indicated recent visits to multiple countries, prompting further medical examination and monitoring. After more than two weeks of treatment, he has now been declared healthy and sent home.<\/p>\n

The Mpox virus, a DNA-based infection, manifests as maculopapular rashes that commonly appear on the palms, soles, and skin, according to Dr. Kumar. <\/p>\n


These rashes can develop into larger ulcerated lesions, causing discomfort but are treatable under proper medical care. The patient at LNJP had showed signs of recovery within days, alleviating concerns of any broader health threat<\/a>.The Union Home Ministry had confirmed the Mpox case earlier, emphasizing that it was an isolated incident. The patient was admitted to a designated tertiary care isolation facility earlier this month and remained stable throughout his treatment, without any systemic illnesses or comorbidities. Public health measures, such as contact tracing and monitoring, were promptly initiated to contain the situation.<\/p>\n

Since July 2022, India has reported around 30 cases of Mpox. However, the current case is not linked to the global public health emergency declared by the World Health Organization<\/a> (WHO<\/a>), which pertains to the more severe Clade 1 variant of the virus prevalent in parts of Africa. <\/p>\n

WHO had recently renewed the Public Health Emergency of International Concern<\/a> (PHEIC) status for Mpox due to its spread in various regions.<\/p>\n

The LNJP Hospital<\/a>, designated as Delhi\u2019s nodal center for Mpox treatment, has 20 isolation rooms for confirmed cases. Two additional hospitals\u2014Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital and Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital\u2014are on standby with 10 isolation rooms each for managing potential patients.<\/p>\n
