Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath<\/a>, who held a meeting with the chairperson, vice-chairperson, and members of the newly constituted State Commission for Women<\/a> on Tuesday in Lucknow, said the commission has an important role to play in the development of women, besides protecting their interest.<\/p>\n

At the meeting, he discussed with the office bearers about the aim behind formation of the Commission, its duties, and rights. He hoped that the Commission would play its role in the development of leadership quality among the women in the state.<\/p>\n

Referring to the \u201cNari Shakti Vandan Act\u201d, CM Yogi told the office-bearers of the Commission that this new legislation would soon come into effect across the nation, reserving one-third of the seats in the Lok Sabha and State Legislative assemblies for women. Yogi further said the leadership development among women is necessary to ensure proper benefits of the new legislation for them in UP also.<\/p>\n

He urged the State Women\u2019 Commission to take proactive measures in protecting women’s interests and ensuring their welfare. He asked the Commission to prepare a comprehensive plan aiming at achieving these objectives.<\/p>\n

He also highlighted several schemes, which his government has launched in the state for the development and safety of the women and girls. He further said several schemes are being implemented to benefit the women and girls in the state. He referred to special helpline numbers designed to assist them. He added positive results have already been observed because of these pro-women initiatives.<\/p>\n


He urged the office-bearers of the Commission to talk to the local women during their visit to different districts in the state and communicate with them about the government\u2019s scheme meant for them. CM Yogi asked the office-bearers to communicate to the Chief Minister\u2019s Office about the feedback they collect from the women in different districts. He told them that if any individual is not able to get benefits of the pro-women scheme, the commission should send its recommendations to the state government. Besides, the CM Yogi emphasized his government’s commitment to rescuing children who are trapped in illegal activities like begging. He said such children should be freed. He also added the government has undertaken efforts to make arrangements for the education and housing facilities of such children. They must be brought to the mainstream of the society, CM Yogi further said. CM Yogi also highlighted Vrindavan-based \u201cKrishna Kutir\u201d, established with the support of the Government of India, to support destitute women. There are several such centres for destitute women currently operational. CM Yogi said several women, who are staying in such centres, possess various skills and the Commission must engage with these women and get their suggestions for better utilization of their abilities. <\/p>\n

He also underlined the need for inspection of the Mahila Sanvasini Grihas, Atal Residential Schools, Kasturba Schools, women\u2019s hostels, and Ashram System Schools by the office-bearers of the Commission.
