The labour ministry<\/a> has directed the Employees\u2019 Provident Fund Organisation to engage with employers and employees\u2019 associations and nudge them to enroll workers under the Employment Linked Incentive<\/a> (ELI) schemes announced in the Budget. <\/p>\n

Labour secretary Sumita Dawra<\/a> on Wednesday held a meeting with EPFO<\/a> officials on the ELI schemes as EPFO is the implementing body for the three schemes to be administered by the ministry of labour and employment. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe labour secretary stressed on the need for the field officers to fully understand the various provisions of the scheme and to hold regular interactions with employers\u2019 and employees\u2019 associations to give the required push to the scheme,\u201d the ministry said in a statement issued after the meeting.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was stressed that the EPFO officers should own the scheme in true spirit and make all out efforts for advocacy of the scheme to give the scheme the desired impetus,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n

According to the statement issued by the ministry, EPFO conducted a country-wide consultation with all its zonal and regional offices on the ELI schemes to gather their feedback obtained from extensive consultations they have held with various stakeholder bodies, associations and with EPFO\u2019s existing employers on the various aspects of the scheme.<\/p>\n


During the meeting, which was chaired by Dawra, the labour ministry officials clarified all scheme related doubts of its zonal offices.\u201cIt was also emphasized that the scheme finalisation was at an advanced stage and that the queries raised by various stakeholders would be kept in mind and duly clarified in the final scheme draft,\u201d the ministry said.The three schemes for \u2018Employment Linked Incentive\u2019 were announced in Union Budget 2024-25<\/a> as part of Prime Minister\u2019s package of five schemes and initiatives to facilitate employment, skilling and other opportunities for 41 million youth over a five-year period with a central outlay of Rs 2 lakh crore.<\/p>\n

Under Scheme A, the government will reimburse one month\u2019s wage, up to Rs 15,000 in three installments, as a subsidy to people entering the workforce for the first time.<\/p>\n

The Scheme B, which focuses on bulk hiring of first timers in the manufacturing sector, the government will reimburse 24%, 24%, 16% and 8% of the wage, to be equally shared between the employee and the employer, provided the employer hires 50 or 25% of the baseline of its employee strength under EPFO and retains them for at least 12 months. <\/p>\n

Under Scheme C, the government will reimburse the employers\u2019 share of EPFO, up to Rs 3,000 per month for two years. This will be applicable to establishments that hire additional two employees (if their headcount is less than 50) and five employees (if the headcount is more than 50 employees).
