I am a Conservative and remain so but sadly the current party are far removed from the party I joined and served in cabinet.\u201d<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">She added: \u201cMy decision is a reflection of how far right my party has moved and the hypocrisy and double standards in its treatment of different communities.\u201d<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Baroness Warsi suggested she would raise some of these issues in her new book, Muslims Don\u2019t Matter.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">In <!-- --><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SayeedaWarsi\/status\/1839356977920745933\" class=\"sc-c9299ecf-0 bZUiKB\" rel=\"noopener\">a further tweet<!-- --><\/a>, she said would &#8220;not be gagged on a point of principle&#8221; and accused the Conservative Party under Mr Sunak of wanting to &#8220;retry and replay&#8221; the trial of Ms Hussain.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">&#8220;It would be unfair to do this whilst continuing to take the Conservatives whip,&#8221; she posted.<!-- --><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\">\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">After the 2010 general election, Baroness Warsi made history by becoming the first Muslim woman in the cabinet as co-chair of the Conservative Party.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">A former solicitor with the Crown Prosecution Service, she then served as a minister in David Cameron\u2019s government.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">But she quit as the minister for faith and communities in 2014 over the government\u2019s policy on the Israel-Gaza conflict.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">She has since criticised the party&#8217;s inquiry into Islamophobia inquiry and <!-- --><a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-england-leeds-68581917\" class=\"sc-c9299ecf-0 bZUiKB\" rel=\"noopener\">called it \u201cinstitutionally xenophobic and racist\u201d<!-- --><\/a>.<!-- --><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\">\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Resigning the Conservative whip means she will no longer be affiliated with the party in the House of Lords, where she has sat as a peer since 2007.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">The party is <!-- --><a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/c51y2lqzxl8o\" class=\"sc-c9299ecf-0 bZUiKB\" rel=\"noopener\">still choosing its next leader<!-- --><\/a>, with the final four candidates set to make speeches at the conference in Birmingham.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">An intensive round of hustings and multiple votes will follow the conference from 8 October, lasting three days, until only two candidates are left.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Conservative Party members will then choose which of the final two candidates they want as the new leader, with the result announced on 2 November.<!-- --><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/c0e1q5w0q9po\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former Conservative Party chairwoman Baroness Warsi has resigned from the party in the House of Lords, claiming it has moved to the \u201cfar right\u201d.
