The three-day training session<\/a> on \u201cAdvances in seed and Nursery Technology\u201d, which was held on the premises of Dehradun-based prestigious Forest Research Institute<\/a> (FRI), concluded on Thursday. The training session began on September 24.<\/p>\n

The training session, sponsored by the Union Ministry of Forest Environment and Climate Change, was held for other stakeholders under the scheme \u201cForestry Training and Capacity Building\u201d by the Silviculture and Forest Management Division, Indian Council of Forest Research<\/a> and Education, and the Forest Research Institute (ICFRE-FRI) in Dehradun.<\/p>\n

Indian Forest Service (IFS) Officer Richa Mishra, who is head of the Silviculture and Forest Management Division, FRI, welcomed the Chief Guest of the function Dr Renu Singh, IFS, Director, ICFRE-FRI by presenting a bouquet. She also gave a brief account of programme and research activities being carried out in FRI.<\/p>\n

While inaugurating the training session, Dr Renu Singh interacted with the participants to know about their expectations from the training session organized for creating awareness about Seed and Nursery Technology. She shared the details about the training and advancement in Seed and Nursery Technology of forestry trees.<\/p>\n

At the technical session, various resource persons delivered their lectures. Scientist Dr Devendra Kumar focussed on the Quality seed collection<\/a>, extraction, processing and pre- treatments of nursery seeds, besides seedlings quality evaluation of forestry trees. Scientist Dr Vinod K. Kairon, highlighted on Quality seedlings production and the economics of Nursery Development Record Management. Dr Manisha Thapliyal made the participants aware about<\/p>\n


The management and infrastructure of modern nursery, potting mixture and containers for flowering and avenue tree seedlings. Dr Arvind Kumar delivered a lecture on the nursery insect pests and their management while Dr Shailesh Pandey highlighted nursery diseases and their management. Dr B.P. Tamta\u2019s lecture was on the important propagation of medicinal plants in nurseries. Dr Vipin Parkas focussed on the application of VAM to Grow quality seedlings in nursery. Dr G. Balaganesh touched the topic of nursery management<\/a>, marketing, and economics for Smallholder Farmers and nursery operators.Participants were taken to Kukreti Nursery, Doctor Ganj, Vikasnagar. Nursery owner Ashok Kukreti showed them seedlings of Pine, Bamboo, Citrus species, Guava, Swietenia, Anola and flowering plants like Rose prepared by grafting, mango grafted. Besides this he also explained the economics of making a nursery.<\/p>\n

Participants\u2019 views about the training session were also collected. Certificates were distributed by the director, FRI to all the participants.
