{"id":143271,"date":"2024-09-27T14:41:07","date_gmt":"2024-09-27T14:41:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.talkwithrattan.com\/index.php\/2024\/09\/27\/harland-and-wolff-titanic-shipbuilder-enters-administration\/"},"modified":"2024-09-27T14:41:07","modified_gmt":"2024-09-27T14:41:07","slug":"harland-and-wolff-titanic-shipbuilder-enters-administration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.talkwithrattan.com\/index.php\/2024\/09\/27\/harland-and-wolff-titanic-shipbuilder-enters-administration\/","title":{"rendered":"Harland and Wolff: Titanic shipbuilder enters administration"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align:center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ichef.bbci.co.uk\/news\/1024\/branded_news\/6df0\/live\/8b76a580-7cdd-11ef-bb53-3da3ce6977cd.jpg?fit=1024,576&amp;ssl=1\" class=\"attachment-post-thumbnail size-post-thumbnail wp-post-image\" alt=\"Harland and Wolff: Titanic shipbuilder enters administration\" title=\"Harland and Wolff: Titanic shipbuilder enters administration\" \/><\/div><p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\">\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Harland and Wolff, the Belfast-based shipbuilder which built the Titanic, has formally entered administration for the second time in five years.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Last week the company\u2019s board had warned that the move was inevitable.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">The administration process is confined to the holding company, Harland &amp; Wolff Group Holdings plc, with the operational companies which run the yards continuing to trade.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Its main yard is in Belfast with other operation at Appledore in England and Methil and Arnish in Scotland.<!-- --><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\">\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">The company\u2019s executive chairman, Russell Downs, is optimistic that a new owner or owners will be found for the yards.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Gavin Park and Matt Cowlishaw of Teneo Financial Advisory have been appointed as joint administrators.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">The holding company currently has 66 employees.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">In a statement Harland and Wolff said: &#8220;The Administrators will unfortunately be required to reduce the headcount upon appointment.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">&#8220;A number of employees will be retained to provide certain required services to the operational companies under a transitional services agreement with the Administrators.&#8221;<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">The company has also restated that the administration process means that shareholders in Harland and Wolff will see the value of their investment wiped out.<!-- --><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\">\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Famous for building the Titantic, the Belfast shipyard was founded in 1861 by Yorkshireman Edward Harland and his German business partner, Gustav Wolff.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">By the early 20th Century, Harland and Wolff dominated global shipbuilding and had become the most prolific builder of ocean liners in the world.<!-- --><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/czxgn1n08k7o\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Harland and Wolff, the Belfast-based shipbuilder which built the Titanic, has formally entered administration for the second time in five years.
