Farmers in villages like Palla and Daryapur have planted it, and it is ready for harvesting earlier than other long-duration varieties like Pusa-44. This new crop matures in 120 to 125 days, while Pusa-44 takes about 155 to 160 days to mature.<\/p>\n<p>Farmers in Punjab and Haryana have also started planting Pusa-2090 on a small scale. One farmer from Punjab, Shukhjeet Singh Bhangu, mentioned, \u201cUnlike the Pusa-44 variety which matures in 155 to 160 days, the Pusa-2090 variety took just 120 to 125 days. Yields of both these varieties (34-35 quintal per acre) are almost the same.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bhangu planted Pusa-2090 on one acre of land and said this new variety would give farmers an extra 30 days to prepare for the next crop, reducing the need for stubble burning. He has shared seeds of the new crop with other farmers who have already harvested their paddy.<\/p>\n<p>A K Singh, former IARI director, said, \u201cResults of Pusa-2090 are quite encouraging. Hopefully, more and more farmers will adopt it in due course, possibly from the next year\u2019s paddy sowing season or in 2026.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><!--\/include_growfast.cms?pagename=article&skipcss=1potime:2--><br \/>The new variety not only provides more time for preparing the fields for the next crops like wheat but also helps in reducing input costs.
