She is looking at a letter at the same time.\" class=\"sc-a34861b-0 efFcac\"\/><span class=\"sc-a34861b-2 fxQYxK\">Getty Images<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><figcaption class=\"sc-8353772e-0 cvNhQw\">Billing disputes were the biggest cause of complaint to water companies<!-- --><\/figcaption><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\" class=\"sc-18fde0d6-0 dlWCEZ\">\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">A body representing the customers of water companies said complaints had risen by almost a third because concerns were not being addressed. <!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">The Consumer Council for Water (CCW) said it had handled 7,977 complaints in the past year from people who had &#8220;exhausted&#8221; their company\u2019s complaint process.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">It found Thames Water to be the worst performer, with Yorkshire Water and Cambridge Water also poor. <!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">All three water companies said they were working with CCW to make changes.<!-- --><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div data-component=\"text-block\" class=\"sc-18fde0d6-0 dlWCEZ\">\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Just under 223,000 complaints were made to water companies in England and Wales during 2023-24 &#8211; a rise of 29%, CWW figures revealed.<!-- --><\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-eb7bd5f6-0 fYAfXe\">Billing disputes made up more than half of complaints, and concerns about environmental performance, such as spills from storm overflows and pollution, increased by 217%.
