Reports indicate that the young woman had been suffering from trichophagia<\/a>, a condition involving the compulsive eating of one\u2019s own hair, for 16 years, noted TOI. This hairball, known as a trichobezoar<\/a>, caused her severe stomach pain<\/a>, prompting her to seek medical help.<\/p>\n

The woman had secretly battled trichophagia, which often occurs alongside trichotillomania\u2014a mental disorder characterised by the urge to pull out one\u2019s hair, according to the TOI report. Over the years, the hair she ingested accumulated in her stomach, forming a hard mass. Despite experiencing stomach pain for five years, she remained unaware of the cause.<\/p>\n

Diagnosis and treatment<\/h3>\n

After consulting multiple doctors over the years without a diagnosis, the woman finally visited a district hospital in Bareilly in September. A CT scan revealed the shocking presence of a two-kilogram hairball in her stomach, surprising both her family and the medical staff, reported TOI.<\/p>\n

A team of skilled doctors performed a critical surgery<\/a> to remove the hairball successfully. Following the procedure, the woman was discharged in good health.
