Kolkata: Kolkata Police<\/a> on Thursday sent a letter to the seven junior doctors<\/a> who are on a fast-unto-death agitation at Esplanade, protesting against the rape and murder of a post graduate doctor of RG Kar Medical<\/a> and Hospital, urging them to vacate the dais and get admitted to hospital for treatment. The West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Front<\/a> (WBJDF) organised ‘Abhaya Parikrama’ — a march to the various puja pandals in Kolkata to demand justice. People from various walks of lives joined the protest march on Thursday. Meanwhile, nine protesters, who were arrested on Wednesday evening by the police, were produced in court on Thursday.<\/p>\n

The police send a letter to the agitating doctors after a senior doctor who medically examined the junior doctors on hunger-strike informed media persons that the medical condition of Aniket Mahato has deteriorated drastically and that he needs to be hospitalised. However, Mahato said he will continue his hunger strike<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Following this, the officer-in-charge of Hare Street police station came to the Esplanade demonstration spot and served the letter. The letter said a Kolkata Police ambulance has been kept ready at the protest site. The city police also claimed to have requested the state health department to organise a team of medical officers for the doctors on hunger-strike.<\/p>\n

The agitating junior doctors claimed that more than the deteriorating health condition of their colleagues, the police were more concerned about vacating the demonstration dais, which they claimed was occupied without their permission. “The emphasis of the letter was that we have been organising a protest demonstration at Esplanade since October 5 without permission. So, according to the police, we will have to vacate the place,” said a WBJDF representative.
