Kolkata: Indian Medical Association<\/a> (IMA) National Secretary RV Ashokan on Friday visited the junior doctors<\/a> sitting for fast-unto-death from last Saturday. Huge assembly was witnessed in Kolkata<\/a> in the mega rally called by the West Bengal<\/a> Junior Doctor’s Front on Friday evening where common people joined in large numbers. Various private hospitals, including Fortis<\/a>, Peerless hospitals, have started pendown on non-medical work on October 14 and 15. However, emergency services will be open only.<\/p>\n

“It is the moral duty of the government to create an ambience of peace and safety. We urge the West Bengal Chief Minister. She is no ordinary leader. She has come through movement. We appeal to the state govt and Chief Minister in particular to be sympathetic and resolve this crisis. Time has come. We need to be concerned about their health. We are answerable to their parents,” Ashokan said.<\/p>\n

In a letter to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee<\/a> on Friday, IMA has urged her to resolve the issue and expressed concern over the health condition of the junior doctors. Meanwhile Calcutta High Court released nine protesters who were arrested by Kolkata Police on October 9 and arrested under non-bailable sections from a Kolkata Puja pandal. <\/p>\n

In a letter to Banerjee, the IMA said the doctors deserve her \u201cimmediate attention\u201d and pointed out that a safe working environment is a \u201cprerequisite\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeaceful ambience and security are not a luxury. They are a prerequisite. We appeal to your good self to settle the issues with the young generation (of) doctors as an elder and the head of the government,\u201d the IMA said.<\/p>\n


Meanwhile, Condition of Aniket Mahato, one of the seven junior doctors on fast-unto-death, deteriorated last midnight and he has been hospitalized at RG Kar Medical College<\/a> & hospital.A mega rally has been called today by the West Bengal Junior Doctor’s Front (WBJDF), protesting the PGT doctor’s rape and murder of R.G, Kar Medical College & Hospital, today evening at Esplanade as Bengal reached second day of Durga Puja-Nabami.Mahato is in the Critical Care Unit (CCU) and his condition is critical. “Aniket is critical and he is not stable. He had severe dehydration and stomach ache when admitted,” a CCU doctor of RG Kar Medical said. A medical board has been formed for his treatment.<\/p>\n

Condition of other doctors at demonstration dias is serious. A team of senior doctors of Calcutta Medical College & Hospital today requested them to withdraw fast-unto death and continue protests.<\/p>\n

“The government should take responsibility for this. We had hoped to get a written directive from the meeting with the Chief Secretary. But it remained unresolved,” Debaish Halder, a member of WBJDF said.<\/p>\n

<\/strong>Meanwhile, in an imp development Chief Secretary has senta status report to the Junior Doctors regarding status report on various initiatives and interventions in Health Care Services Delivery System.
“A Status Report on various initiatives and Interventions in the Health Care Services Delivery System in the stale is attached for your perusal. In view of the health concerns of your colleagues on hunger strike and towards smooth restoration of normalcy, it is again requested to withdraw from the hunger strike immediately,” Pant wrote in his letter.
