The upgrades are part of the state\u2019s commitment to a Supreme Court directive, which comes with an October 15 deadline. <\/p>\n<p><!--\/article_liveblog.cms?msid=105115637&pos=toppotime:2-->These updates include the installation of <a ref=\"dofollow\" data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/cctv-cameras\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CCTV cameras<\/a> and improvements to washrooms and duty rooms, according to a senior <a ref=\"dofollow\" data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/health-department\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">health department<\/a> official, Times of India reported.<\/p>\n<p>A status report shared by State Chief Secretary Manoj Pant, on October 11, showed that the state was installing a total of 7,051 CCTV cameras and setting up 893 new duty rooms along with 778 washrooms across government hospitals. \u201cProper lights, alarm systems, and biometric access control are being implemented&#8230; The government has allocated over Rs 113 crore,\u201d the report said.<\/p>\n<p>Although most hospitals are done with the upgrades, work is still ongoing at RG Kar Medical College, which has been the site of protests since the rape and murder of a resident doctor. <\/p>\n<p>The hospital only received permission from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to begin working on the upgrades on October 12. \u201cOut of 532 planned CCTV cameras, 462 were installed by Sunday and early Tuesday. We aim to complete the remaining work as soon as possible. We are also building 71 new duty rooms and 82 new washrooms,\u201d an RG Kar official told TOI. <\/p>\n<p><!--\/include_growfast.cms?pagename=article&skipcss=1potime:1--><br \/>He added that permission to start work on the chest medicine ward came through on Monday, and the hospital expects to finish the remaining upgrades within a month.Technicians and personnel from the <a ref=\"dofollow\" data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/public-works-department\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Public Works Department<\/a> (PWD) have been working round-the-clock at government hospitals to meet the deadline. Additional security personnel are being deployed as well, with 212 private guards already in place and 85 more set to join.At other major hospitals, progress is also visible. Officials at SSKM Hospital reported that 95% of their upgrade work is complete, while NRS Medical College has installed all CCTV cameras and upgraded duty rooms. At Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata (MCH), 95% of the CCTV cameras and washrooms have been installed, and 92% of the duty rooms are ready.<\/p>\n<p>The state has also engaged 1,514 <a ref=\"dofollow\" data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/private-security-guards\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">private security guards<\/a> following police verification and training. Additionally, a real-time bed availability and central referral system has been set up.
