Tamil Nadu CM<\/a> MK Stalin has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding Hindi language oriented events being held in non-Hindi speaking states, saying it could be avoided. <\/p>\n

“…If the Union Government still desires to hold such events, I suggest that celebration of the local language month in respective states must also be done with equal warmth. Further, I also suggest that the Government of India can hold special events to celebrate the richness of all the Classical languages that it has recognized in the respective States. This could enhance the cordial relationship among all,” reads the letter. <\/p>\n

Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin<\/a> has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to reconsider the Centre’s decision to hold Hindi-oriented events in non-Hindi speaking states, arguing that such initiatives could strain relationships among regions with distinct linguistic identities.<\/p>\n

In a letter to the Prime Minister, Stalin emphasised the need to recognise and celebrate India\u2019s linguistic diversity<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“As you are aware, the Constitution of India does not accord national language status to any language. Hindi and English are used only for official purposes such as legislation, judiciary and communication between the Union Government and the State Governments,” said the CM. <\/p>\n


Further talking against Hindi language related events in the southern states, Stalin said “In the circumstances, in a multilingual country like India, according special place to Hindi and celebrating Hindi Month in non-hindi speaking States is seen as an attempt to belittle other languages.””Therefore, I suggest that holding such Hindi language oriented events in non-hindi speaking States could be avoided or if the Union Government still desires to hold such events, I suggest that celebration of the local language month in respective states must also be done with equal warmth. Further, I also suggest that the Government of India can hold special events to celebrate the richness of all the Classical languages that it has recognized in the respective States. This could enhance the cordial relationship among all,” read CM’s letter. \u201cIf the Union government wishes to proceed with these events, I suggest that local language celebrations in each state be given equal prominence,\u201d Stalin stated.
