Pratibha Ranta<\/a> rose to prominence with her role in Kiran Rao’s film\u00a0Laapata Ladies<\/em>.<\/a> The actress, who hails from Shimla, made her acting debut in the 2020 TV show\u00a0Qurbaan Hua<\/em>. In an interview, Pratibha discussed the issues of women’s safety, feminism and menstruation<\/a>.\u00a0The actress recalled\u00a0the time she had a conversation\u00a0about periods with her first boyfriend in school.\u00a0\u201cMine was an all-girls school. My first boyfriend was from a boys’ school\u00a0and\u00a0I was his first female friend. I was coming home from dance class when I ran into him. I was a bit bothered because I was on my period\u00a0and\u00a0I told him, \u2018Listen! I’m on my period today. I can’t walk much.’,\u201d Pratibha said in a conversation with Hauterfly<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The actress added, \u201cAs soon as he heard about periods, he panicked\u00a0a little. It was the first time someone had openly talked to him about it. He started biologically explaining how long it lasts and how it happens, speaking in textbook language. I laughed a bit and said, \u2018Yeah, I know.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Pratibha Ranta emphasised the importance of males having open conversations about menstruation. She added that even though the men have technical knowledge, the\u00a0real\u00a0understanding of the situation only comes with conversation with women who have experienced it. \u201cSome things\u00a0are better understood\u00a0through experience,\u201d the actress said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In the same interview, Pratibha Ranta also talked about her family. The actress added that women in her family have always had financial freedom. \u201cIt’s quite challenging for someone from Himachal to establish themselves in Mumbai. I come from a family where women\u00a0have the freedom to\u00a0make their own decisions. My grandmother was a teacher when Indian women weren’t working. She used to teach students to play during that era. My grandmother taught Hindi and had a passion for dance. My mother is a housewife\u00a0and\u00a0we have an apple business at home,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

On the work front, Pratibha Ranta\u00a0was last seen\u00a0in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s web series\u00a0Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar.<\/em>\u00a0The show featured Sonakshi Sinha, Manisha Koirala, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Sheikh and Sharmin Segal in\u00a0key\u00a0roles.\u00a0<\/p>\n
