The New <a ref=\"dofollow\" data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/delhi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Delhi<\/a> Municipal Corporation (NDMC) plans to double parking charges for cars and two-wheelers following the activation of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) Stage II. This plan is aimed at controlling vehicular pollution, a significant contributor to the city&#8217;s poor air quality.<\/p>\n<p><!--\/article_liveblog.cms?msid=105115637&pos=toppotime:2-->The NDMC has already doubled parking charges in Lutyens&#8217; Delhi from October 22. The proposal to extend this increase to other parts of the city is still pending approval. A senior NDMC official stated, &#8220;In keeping Delhi&#8217;s rising pollution in mind, the NDMC has decided to double its parking charges to encourage people to travel by public transportation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Currently, for surface parking, cars are charged \u20b920 per hour or \u20b9100 for the entire day, while two-wheelers are charged \u20b910 per hour. In multilevel parking areas, the rate is \u20b910 for cars and \u20b95 for two-wheelers for the first four hours. The NDMC controls about 96 percent of public parking spaces in the city.<\/p>\n<p>The proposed increase is awaiting approval from the state assembly.
