A Labour MP has said he was involved in an incident where he “felt threatened” and is cooperating with police. <\/p>\n

Mike Amesbury, the MP for Runcorn and Helsby, said he felt “threatened on the street following an evening out with friends” on Friday night in Cheshire.<\/p>\n

“This morning, I contacted Cheshire Police myself to report what happened during this incident,” he added.<\/p>\n

“I will not be making further public comment but will, of course, cooperate with any inquiries if required by Cheshire Police.<\/p>\n

“I remain fully committed to working hard for the people of Runcorn and Helsby, and am determined to remain an open and accessible MP for our community.”<\/p>\n

Video of the incident appears to show Mr Amesbury standing over a man lying on the floor in Frodsham.<\/p>\n

The MP tells the man “you won’t ever threaten me again” while pointing at him, before saying: “Yes I am [the MP], yes I am, and you won’t threaten the MP ever again, will you?”<\/p>\n

Cheshire Police said officers were called at 2.48am to reports of an assault in Frodsham.<\/p>\n

“A caller reported he had been assaulted by a man in Main Street. Inquiries are ongoing.”<\/p>\n

The Labour Party added it is aware of the incident and said Mr Amesbury will “cooperate with any inquiries” the police have.<\/p>\n
