As Diwali approaches, many are voicing concerns over the anticipated increase in pollution due to firecracker use. Some have suggested that oil used for lighting diyas could instead be given to the underprivileged. Pandit Dhiren Krishna Shastri, however, addressed these critiques on Wednesday, firmly defending the traditions of Deepotsav and the use of firecrackers as part of Diwali celebrations<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Shastri questioned why similar objections aren\u2019t raised for non-Hindu celebrations, pointing to firecrackers used globally during New Year festivities.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhenever there is a Hindu festival<\/a>, a lot of people start schooling others. On Holi, it is said that water will get wasted. During Diwali, it is said that pollution will increase. The firecrackers are also burnt on New Year. Is there no pollution then? These hypocritical comments will not work anymore,\u201d he told ANI.<\/p>\n

He further observed that there is a double standard, noting that no one raises objections when festivities involve other religions.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don’t say anything when New Year is celebrated on January 1 with firecrackers across the world. Why do you point a finger when the festival is associated with Sanatan Dharma?\u201d Shastri asked.<\/p>\n

A Grand Deepotsav in Ayodhya<\/h2>\n

Shastri highlighted the grandeur planned for this year\u2019s Deepotsav in Ayodhya. With this being the first celebration following the Pran Pratishtha ceremony<\/a> of the Ram Mandir, a significant tradition has been set to honor the occasion. An estimated 28 lakh diyas are planned to light up the ghats and banks of the Saryu River, marking a major milestone for devotees of Lord Ram.\u201cI extend best wishes to everyone on the occasion of Diwali. This is the first time that Raghunath ji (deity) is out of the tent and established in the temple. This is the first Deepotsav after the Pran Pratishtha<\/a> program of Lord Shri Ram. 28 lakh diyas (oil lamps) will be lit to illuminate ghats along the banks of the Saryu River during \u2018Deepotsav\u2019 in Ayodhya. This is a very big day for the devotees of Lord Ram,\u201d Shastri stated.<\/p>\n

Preparations for a Historic Deepotsav<\/h2>\n

Uttar Pradesh Minister Jaiveer Singh noted that every effort has been made to enhance the divinity and magnificence of this year\u2019s event, which is expected to set new records for its grandeur.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the first \u2018Deepotsav\u2019 after the Pran Pratishtha of Ram Mandir<\/a> in Ayodhya, and every effort has been made to give grandeur and divinity to this programme. Many things will be made to create new records this year. In today\u2019s program, the Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat will be here,\u201d Singh said.<\/p>\n
