A five-year-old boy drowned in a swimming pool on a family holiday in Egypt, an inquest has heard.<\/p>\n

Kelan Logan-Derench from Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham<\/strong><\/a>, was found at the bottom of a hotel swimming pool in Cairo without his armbands on 25 November last year.<\/p>\n

Birmingham and Solihull Coroner’s Court heard Kelan was pulled from the water and later died at the El Nile Hospital.<\/p>\n

In a written inquest verdict, senior coroner Louise Hunt found that Kelan died as a result of an accident.<\/p>\n

He was described by a family friend as a “cheeky, mischievous, happy little boy”.<\/p>\n

Kelan was staying with his family at the Mirette Hotel in Hurghada, according to the record of inquest.<\/p>\n

He was found at around 12.05pm and attempts were made to resuscitate him.<\/p>\n

Drowning was recorded as his medical cause of death.<\/p>\n

A GoFundMe page was organised<\/strong><\/a> by Serena Whitehead, a friend of Kelan’s mother, shortly after his death.<\/p>\n

Nearly \u00a320,000 was raised to cover the cost of returning his body to the UK and to help with funeral costs.<\/p>\n

“Kelan was a cheeky, mischievous, happy little boy, he was a younger brother to Cienna and was about to become a big brother himself in February 2024,” Ms Whitehead wrote.<\/p>\n

According to the page, Kelan died just one day after the start of his holiday with his mother, sister and grandmother.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
