And India became a partner for the US to counter-balance China in the Indo-Pacific region. New Delhi is diversifying its supply chain to reduce its dependence on China. However, it wants a stable political relationship with Beijing by ending the standoff in Ladakh. With Trump viewed as a deal-maker, he will be closely watched around the globe for any deal between Washington and Beijing. In his first term in office, Trump unlike his predecessor or successor did not launch or encourage a war in any part of the globe. The Modi government will also closely monitor Trump’s Iran policy given the experience last time. Trump pulled out from the Iran deal jeopardising India’s oil imports from Tehran and overall trade ties with the Persian Gulf country. While the Biden administration could not revive the Iran deal, New Delhi signed a 10-year pact with Iran this May on the Chabahar Port project. Iran is also key to INSTC whose salience has increased for Indo-Russian trade since the Ukraine conflict. Both INSTC and Chabahar Port remain key to India’s outreach to Eurasia. There are also plans to connect INSTC with Chabahar Port. The silver lining could be the current President of Iran who may be interested in a deal with Washington. But Trump’s predicament will be his strong ties with the Israeli PM. Yet, as someone who was responsible for the Abraham Accord, Trump may spring a surprise.

Source link

New Delhi: China may have little to cheer as on date following the historic victory of Donald Trump as the US President even as it hoped for “peaceful coexistence” with Washington.“We will continue to approach and handle China-US relations based on the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation,” foreign ministry spokeswoman Mao […]

[602
16167,168,764,273,49712,19606,49710,23851,5675,11524,52,1734,93268,129800,131298
