The much-awaited IND vs AUS Border-Gavaskar Trophy will kick off on November 22. Meanwhile, former Australian captain Ricky Ponting has weighed in on IND vs AUS<\/a> Test series, backing Australia as a strong contender to claim victory by a big margin.<\/p>\n

Rohit Sharma-led Indian team recently endured a 0-3 clean sweep at home against New Zealand, marking the first time they have been defeated by the Kiwis in such a manner on home soil. This heavy loss has put Indian cricket team under increased scrutiny.<\/p>\n

After their loss to New Zealand, India’s chances of qualifying for WTC final have become much tougher. To make it, India will need to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia by a large margin and will likely need other results to go their way as well.<\/p>\n

Ricky Ponting expressed confidence that, with their experience and the benefit of home conditions, Australia will secure a 3-1 victory in the upcoming IND vs AUS Border-Gavaskar Trophy.<\/p>\n

“I think India will win a Test match somewhere through the five Test matches. But I still think now, Australia probably look a bit more settled, a bit more experienced and we know that they’re a very hard team to beat at home. So I’ll stick with the 3-1,” Ponting said on ICC Review.<\/p>\n

Ponting emphasized that the Indian team may struggle due to absence of senior fast bowler Mohammed Shami, who has been sidelined since 2023 ODI World Cup. The veteran couldn’t recover fully in time for upcoming IND vs AUS Border-Gavaskar Trophy and, as a result, was left out of the Indian squad.<\/p>\n

“Probably more so now (than before). (Mohammed) Shami just leaves such a big hole in that bowling group. Back then (in August) there was still some conjecture about whether Shami would be fit or not. I think taking 20 wickets in a Test match for India is going to be the biggest challenge. I think they’ll bat well enough out here with the current group of batters that they’ve got,” Ponting said about Australia’s chances against India as quoted by the ICC.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
