India sees a potential acceleration and disruption in re-ordering of supply chains as an opportunity, External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar said on Thursday. The EAM was speaking on the consequences of the results of the US Presidential Elections on Washington and New Delhi’s bilateral ties, both in terms of diplomacy and the business aspect of the relationship. <\/p>\n

One of the first consequences, according to Jaishankar, was the ongoing reordering of global supply chains, which he believes will now accelerate due to the U.S. election results. <\/p>\n

The COVID-19 pandemic and rising geopolitical tensions, have already triggered companies to rethink their supply chain strategies.<\/p>\n

“First, there was already re-ordering of the supply chains which was taking place, it is very likely that in view of the election results in the US yesterday this would accelerate…Some of it would be more disruptive, but we in India see it as an opportunity,” said Dr. Jaishankar.<\/p>\n


Further, the EAM also pointed out that the implications of these results will also be seen in terms of geopolitical hedging<\/a> and digitally. “There would be in a way more geo-political hedging…Third pertains to the digital side, and what has happened and will continue to happen,” the EAM was quoted as saying. Jaishankar also expressed his optimism that even under an US administration led by Donald Trump<\/a>, there would likely still be distinctions made in immigration policies that could impact skilled workers from foreign countries.<\/p>\n

“Even a United States under Donald Trump, will make a distinction in immigration and mobility,” said Jaishankar. <\/p>\n

Notably, stringent immigration rules and a vow to drive out illegal immigrants has been a strong point for Trump, who came back to power to serve a second term in the White House on November 6, 2024, defeating his prime opponent and the current US Vice President, Kamala Harris<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
