Clicktech<\/a>, a major seller on Amazon India<\/a>, is acquiring its peer Appario<\/a> as part of the ecommerce major\u2019s plan to divest stakes in sellers on its platform.<\/p>\n

Appario is the largest seller on Amazon India following the closure of Cloudtail, and moves a significant volume of orders for the local arm of the US-based etailer. This is the second time Amazon is divesting its stake from a seller entity to comply with local ecommerce norms.<\/p>\n

Amazon is also fully acquiring Appario\u2019s parent firm, Frontizo Business Services<\/a>, from its joint venture partner, Patni Group<\/a>. Appario is the wholly-owned subsidiary of Frontizo.<\/p>\n

Post the transaction, Frontizo will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Amazon, while Appario will be owned by Clicktech.<\/p>\n

\u201c(Clicktech) believes that it can scale and grow by expanding its selection offering on the marketplace. Hence the board has decided to buy Appario\u2019s business and expand their product offering,\u201d the firm\u2019s executive director Raj Jain told ET in a statement.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for Frontizo and Appario also confirmed the two transactions, without giving any deal details.<\/p>\n

Clicktech is promoted by the Vinod Poddar group, which has interests in steel and coal processing, real estate and plastics.Appario was the last remaining major seller in which Amazon itself held a stake. In October 2022, Amazon said it would delist Appario from the platform over the next year, amid protests from smaller sellers and regulatory pressures. On November 24 last year, ET reported that Amazon and Patni Group were exploring various options for Appario Retail <\/a>to be able to continue selling on the marketplace.<\/p>\n

\u201cEarlier, Patni Group and Amazon had mutually decided to cease Appario business on Amazon.in. Patni Group-owned Zodiac Wealth Advisors LLP and Amazon have now mutually agreed to sunset their joint venture, Frontizo Business Services. Amazon will acquire Zodiac\u2019s (owned by the Patni Group) stake in Frontizo and its subsidiary, Appario Retail Private Limited, subject to regulatory approvals,\u201d a spokesperson for Amazon said in a statement.<\/p>\n

In 2022, Amazon had delisted and shut down its then-largest seller Cloudtail, <\/a>where it held a stake alongside Infosys<\/a> founder NR Narayana Murthy\u2019s Catamaran Ventures.<\/p>\n

Cloudtail\u2019s inventory was bought out by a number of firms like Clicktech and Cocoblu Retail, with a number of Cloudtail\u2019s employees and management also joining the new entities that would go on to become major sellers on Amazon.<\/p>\n
