He succumbed to health complications late on the night of November 9, 2024. In a statement, his family shared, &#8220;We deeply regret to inform you that our father, Mr. <a ref=\"dofollow\" data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/delhi-ganesh\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Delhi Ganesh<\/a>, passed away on 9th November at around 11 PM.&#8221; His mortal remains are currently held in Ramapuram, Chennai, with final rites set for November 11.<\/p>\n<p><!--\/article_liveblog.cms?msid=105115637&pos=toppotime:1-->Delhi Ganesh\u2019s career spanned over four decades, during which he starred in more than 400 films, establishing himself as one of Tamil cinema\u2019s beloved character actors. Known for his effortless adaptation to varied roles, he portrayed comedians, villains, and deeply emotional supporting characters, endearing himself to audiences across generations. He shared screen space with some of <a ref=\"dofollow\" data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/tamil-cinema\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tamil cinema<\/a>&#8216;s biggest icons, including <a data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/panache\/panache-people-101\/rajinikanth\/profileshow\/84760200.cms\" rel=\"noopener\">Rajinikanth<\/a> and <a ref=\"dofollow\" data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/news\/kamal-haasan\" rel=\"noopener\">Kamal Haasan<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Ganesh\u2019s journey in cinema began in 1976 with Pattina Pravesam, directed by the legendary K. Balachander, who also gave him the name &#8220;Delhi Ganesh.&#8221; Although he played a lead role in Engamma Maharani in 1981, it was his memorable roles as a supporting actor that truly solidified his popularity. His standout performances included films like Sindhu Bhairavi (1985), Nayakan (1987), Michael Madana Kama Rajan (1990), Aahaa..! (1997), and Thenali (2000), where he effortlessly balanced humour and emotion.<\/p>\n<p>Delhi Ganesh\u2019s contributions to Tamil cinema earned him multiple awards. He received the Tamil Nadu State Film Award Special Prize for Pasi (1979), and in 1994, he was honoured with the prestigious <a ref=\"dofollow\" data-ga-onclick=\"Inarticle articleshow link click#News#href\" href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/topic\/kalaimamani-award\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kalaimamani Award<\/a> by then Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa in recognition of his excellence in the arts.<\/p>\n<p>In the later years of his career, Ganesh expanded his craft into television and short films, continuously captivating audiences. Among his unique performances was a cameo as Alfred Pennyworth in the short film What If Batman Was from Chennai. His brief but memorable appearance in the 2016 thriller Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru, directed by Karthick Naren, also garnered positive responses.
