On the fringes of the UN Climate Conference (COP29<\/a>), spiritual guide Sadhguru<\/a> offered a critical perspective, arguing that urging nations to abandon fossil fuels without presenting viable alternatives could backfire. Highlighting the imbalance between the ongoing anti-fossil fuel rhetoric and the absence of feasible substitutions, Sadhguru referenced Donald Trump<\/a>‘s infamous “drill, baby drill” slogan, which he sees as a backlash to excessive environmental discourse.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are continuously talking about fossil fuels. It must happen. The shift is needed. But that\u2019s not going to happen unless there are significant technological innovations. It\u2019s not going to happen just because you wish. The world is not going to give up oil simply because you and I say it is not good. Substantive alternatives have to come. Where are those?\u201d he told TOI in an interview.<\/p>\n

“Incessant discussions on fossil fuels are crucial, but mere intentions won\u2019t suffice. Transformative technological advancements are essential,” he remarked during an interview with TOI, illustrating the lack of viable alternatives to oil and emphasizing resistance against sacrificing lifestyle standards for ecological goals.<\/p>\n

Sadhguru noted that despite advancements, solar and wind energy still contribute minimally to global demands. He further observed that while electric vehicles offer respite from urban pollution, their benefits do not extend beyond city borders. “I’m not advocating unchecked fuel consumption. Transition is necessary, but are we truly prepared to jeopardize economic stability for it?” he questioned. <\/p>\n

Criticizing the term “green talk<\/a>,” he mentioned that excessive discourse might provoke counter-reactions focused on fossil fuel reliance due to escalating fuel prices affecting living standards. He argues for immediate reduction in fuel prices to facilitate broader discussions.<\/p>\n


Sadhguru underscored the significance of soil health, advocating for awareness, policy changes, and eventually legislation to preserve it. With 54% of the global populace relying on soil (farming) for livelihood, prioritizing soil health could enact widespread change, he affirmed.At COP29, Sadhguru will engage global leaders in dialogue, promoting the agenda of saving soil as a climate solution and addressing vital issues like farmer livelihoods and food security. The Isha Foundation’s Save Soil Movement has introduced policy recommendations to the UNFCCC, emphasizing agricultural soil regeneration as a central theme in climate finance discussions, gaining endorsements from international bodies.”There are two methods to restore soil organic content: animal waste and tree-derived green litter. Without these, soil revival is impossible. Tree-based agriculture not only nurtures the soil but also boosts farmer incomes significantly. It’s time for farmers to return to ecologically and economically sustainable practices to ensure soil vitality,” stated Sadhguru.
